After recalling the historic diplomatic relations between the two countries, Cambodia and Timor-Leste, which began in 2002 and achieved remarkable results in 2022 when Cambodia chaired ASEAN, on the occasion of the meeting with His Excellency Francisco Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Economic Coordination, Tourism and Environment of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, in the afternoon of August 28, 2023 at the Peace Palace, HE Kitti Tesaphibal Bindit expressed Cambodia’s continued stand in supporting the East Timor’s candidacy in ASEAN, the World Trade Organization, as well as other regional and global architectures.
HE Kitti Tesaphibal Bindit Prime Minister introduced the guests the experience of the process of nation building of Cambodia, which is a difficult journey, and emphasized that the current situation of East Timor is not different from what Cambodia has gone through in the past. Sending the courtesy call on the Prime Minister of East Timor, and thank him for the congratulatory letter, HE Kitti Tesaphibal Bindit Prime Minister hopes to meet directly with the Prime Minister in Jakarta at the upcoming ASEAN Summit. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Economic Coordination, Tourism and Environment of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Samdech Techo’s efforts to help and support the Democratic Republic of East Timor in the past to become an observer country in ASEAN as the 11th member and to persuade other ASEAN members to support East Timor to join ASEAN as well. Expressing his strong belief that under the leadership of HE Kitti Tesaphibal Bindit Prime Minister, Cambodia will further develop to another level, the East Timor Deputy Prime Minister invites HE Kitti Tesaphibal Bindit Prime Minister to visit the Democratic Republic of East Timor in the near future./.
