(The Khmer Daily Network): On the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a productive bilateral meeting with H.E. Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung expressed deep gratitude to PM Hun Manet for his congratulatory message upon his election as Prime Minister and extended a fresh invitation for the Cambodian leader to pay an official visit to Vietnam. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral ties to new heights across all sectors.
Key highlights of the bilateral talks include:
70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties: Both nations have tasked relevant ministries to coordinate grand celebrations for the upcoming 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2027.
Economic Ambitions: The leaders set a strategic bilateral trade target of $20 billion USD. PM Hun Manet encouraged further Vietnamese investment in Cambodia to stimulate regional growth.
Infrastructure Connectivity: Emphasis was placed on accelerating the synchronization of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai Expressway, a project seen as a vital economic artery for both nations.
Border Facilitation: A commitment was made to simplify customs and immigration procedures at border crossings to facilitate seamless trade and travel.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to strengthen cooperation in politics, security, defense, energy, and tourism, ensuring that the “good neighborliness and traditional friendship” between Cambodia and Vietnam remains a cornerstone of regional stability.
