FN : Marketa Kolc Hajkova, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Cambodia, reaffirmed her commitment to further advancing and strengthening relations between Cambodia and the Czech Republic, particularly in the areas of trade and investment.
The ambassador paid a courtesy call on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State on Tuesday morning (Dec. 2) at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.
Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith said that Samdech Techo warmly welcomed Ambassador Marketa Kolc Hajkova and her delegation. He noted that the ambassador’s rapid appointment and arrival demonstrate the Czech Republic’s high regard for Cambodia and reflect the strong bilateral ties between the two countries.
Samdech Techo highlighted the long-standing historical relationship between Cambodia and the Czech Republic. He also recalled that Cambodian king had studied in the Czech Republic in the past, symbolizing the excellent relations between the two nations. During the meeting, Ambassador Marketa Kolc Hajkova expressed her gratitude to Samdech Techo Hun Sen for allowing her and her delegation to pay a courtesy call.
Ambassador Hajkova affirmed that during her tenure she will work to further advance Cambodia–Czech relations, with particular focus on enhancing bilateral trade and investment. She pledged to actively encourage Czech investors to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia.
She informed Samdech Techo that Czech investors are expected to come to Cambodia soon to invest in agriculture, particularly cashew production. She added that in light of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, she will continue expanding bilateral cooperation, including organising various events and facilitating official visits by high-level leaders to Cambodia.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed appreciation for her remarks and emphasised that significant potential remains between Cambodia and the Czech Republic for strengthening cooperation in line with the countries’ diplomatic and political relations.
Samdech Techo expressed hope that the Czech Republic will consider Cambodia an important partner in expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade. The Senate president further noted that beyond bilateral ties, the two countries also cooperate within the ASEAN–EU frameworks. He stressed that both bilateral and multilateral potential can be further expanded for mutual benefit and regional prosperity.
