On the evening of September 6, 2023, in Jakarta, HE Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, and expressed his gratitude to Cambodia, most importantly, Samdech Techo, former Prime Minister, for his support so that Timor-Leste can become an official observer country in ASEAN during its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022, as well as sharing Cambodia’s experience for Timor-Leste to learn and prepare in order to become a member of ASEAN in the near future. Samdech Thipadei proclaimed that Cambodia will continue to support and assist Timor-Leste, especially for the process of preparing for its future ASEAN membership.
