Border negotiations between countries are a major responsibility of the Royal Government to the nation and the people, requiring a clear legal, documentary, and technical foundation, as well as work conducted with utmost meticulousness and high patience to protect our national sovereignty. It cannot be done without a clear basis or based on unreliable sources, such as television, social media, rumors, or special intuition, etc.
Regarding the choice of resolution methods, we must select an approach aligned with the specific circumstances and practical reality, whether through bilateral mechanisms (which we are currently trying to push forward to resolve land borders via the JBC) or international mechanisms (which we are utilizing to resolve maritime borders through compulsory conciliation under UNCLOS).
Best wishes to the Cambodian delegation and legal team led by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, acting as Cambodia’s Special Agent, participating in the 2nd meeting of the Conciliation Commission under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) involving Cambodia and Thailand at the Peace Palace, headquarters of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands, from October 14–18, 2026.
