Today’s inauguration of historic achievement, a modern airport which can accommodate multiple flights is an achievement not only for meeting current needs, but also a preparation for the future. (1) This development is a symbol of two major works that we have been working on – firstly, the work of development and secondly, the work of conservation – both of which must go hand in hand. (We are talking about) development in term of the construction of the infrastructure that the airport here is considered one of the modern airports, where there are not only big buildings but also the infrastructure and advanced equipment and is ready to take on many flights […]
Should there be even the slightest risk of negative impact on the (temples, which is the cultural and ancestral) legacy in the long run, we need to take steps to eliminate the risk to preserve (the legacy from) thousands of years for our descendants. Apparently, the old airport is much too close to Angkor Wat temple and the runway is over five km straight above the Angkor Wat temple. The (2) risk that technicians have been studying for years is, firstly, the vibration that comes from flying planes, small and large; and secondly, related to aircraft smoke that can pollute (the environment) in the temple area […]
Another point is the vision of expanding flights in the future […] in the next 10 to 20 years, Siem Reap will expand (in size towards) the direction of the district of Thmor Puok. Sooner or later, the airport may be not far from the center in the near future […] furthermore, moving the airport here will help boost economic growth in the area as well. We now concentrate on tourism in Siem Reap and other areas such as the Tonle Sap. (3) Design, construction and operation of the airport, plus multi-purpose development projects that the company has prepared (will help boost economic growth in the region) […]
Now prepare the 700 hectares land for the airport and there will be plan to expand in the future. Another 1,000 hectares are planned for development to strengthen multi-purpose development areas […] The road we took from the provincial town to get here was full of mines and deadly battles. (4) We have turned former battlefields into development zones and more economic zones. The industrial and multi-purpose economy is what will complement the tourism economy in Siem Reap. This is the long-term vision of Samdech Techo, the former Prime Minister in choosing this location […]
The airport is now ready. The (5) purpose is not just to make a proud image that we have a good international airport building […] but to make the airport work to achieve the goal that it becomes a driving force to improve the quality of life of citizens and promote the Cambodian economy by – ensuring good management and the provision of all kinds in every angle of services in the airport is running smoothly […] including hospitality, services at the airside and at the passenger side. We make it a place where passers-by have fond memories, as an airport of reception and service and comfort […]
The (6) General Department of Immigration of Cambodia has prepared and implemented a new project related to E-arrival that will facilitate the simplification of custom and immigration-related forms […] and reduce the use of paper for electronic technology […] the project should be ready by the end of 2023 and will be implemented as a pilot project at the Siem Reap airport in 2024. Secondly, we are working on) strengthening the infrastructure connecting between Siem Reap and the airport […] I thank the investment company that not only invests in the airport but in the highway from the airport to National Road 6 […]
(7) We have two plans. First, we extended our National Road No. 6 from the T-junction to the highway from the airport to the provincial town for nearly 20 km. We have planned the budget of about US$ 60 million and we are negotiating. Next year, we can expand to 4 lanes and 6 lanes. The second is to negotiate the construction of a monorail from this airport to the city […] the other day, (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction) His Excellency Say Sam Al raised the issue of the people in Run Ta Ek who asked for (infrastructural connection) with this place, which is about 40 kilometers. We can (see the importance of) connecting with those around here […]
(8) Make the airport a driving force for other developments in the area, not only within the framework of the airport investment company, but encouraging both local and foreign investment in connection with this potential industrial zone […]
(9) Siem Reap is a sister province with Yunnan Province, and HE Governor (of Siem Reap) is here and would consider encouraging more investors and tourists from the Yunnan Province to Siem Reap, and to Cambodia, to make the full use of this airport, giving us the potential to expand further […]
(10) If we talk about a successful airport operation, we can not only talk about the airport framework alone, we have to talk about the macro framework, the whole tourism framework in the Kingdom of Cambodia and in Siem Reap […] there is this potential which we can connect Siem Reap with Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom and beyond, Tonle Sap, for instance, where there are/develop tourism products for the province and the people to benefit from […]
The Royal Government has set out a (11) goal to promote tourism, especially in Siem Reap. On the 13th (November), during a meeting with the private sector, we have declared the principle of […] “Visit Siem Reap 2024” […] and in a separate effort, with the Chinese government last October, I discussed and agreed with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as the Chinese Premier Li Qiang, in celebrating the year 2024 as the year of people-to-people contacts between Cambodia and China, one of the main goals will be to promote more tourists’ arrival from China to Cambodia […]
We set out (12) a policy to reorganize the implementation mechanism of the tourism council to act as an action plan and lead implementation in facilitating and resolving and outlining measures to encourage private sector operators in Siem Reap through incentive mechanisms such as concessions and incentives in the tax sector. (Concerned authorities will see that) reasonable interest financing for tourism operators will be taken care of, while helping hotels and restaurants, tour guides in Siem Reap […]
Despite the global energy crisis, Cambodia this year has been able to keep electricity prices stable […] although the state has suffered some losses, we have tried our best to keep the price of electricity stable […], and (13) in the forthcoming 3 months, especially in this high season, Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) has taken into account incentives by offering a 15% discount on electricity consumption that exceeds (the average) level (from the second half of 2023), meaning the state will reduce taxes (on excess consumption) […] in addition to the Royal Government’s intervention to help reduce fiscal incentives with the preparation of a $ 50 million budget […]
(14) While promoting more direct flight connections […] we will be expanding the scope of border pass that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior are working with Thailand to facilitate tourists from Thailand, […] we will be organizing events […] for instance we are working on organizing a marathon in Siem Reap, re-organizing international meetings here […] and soon there will be provincial water festivals, along the Siem Reap River […]
(15) If there is an airport but there is no activity to help tourism, the airport cannot be used (to the fullest capacity). If there were a lot of tourists, but we lacked infrastructure to receive them, (it is also useless). So, we officially launched this airport in November 2023 with the tourism promotion action plan in Siem Reap for 2024 and the Royal Government’s master plan, which hopes that 2024 is the year to start reviving tourism in the province of Siem Reap, thus, the basis for promoting the expansion of tourism throughout the country […]./.
